listening35 phút4 sections40 câu
Section 1

115 dòng · 3 người nói · 34 từ vựng

00:01Narrator IELTS listening.
00:03 Version 54165.
00:06 You will hear a number of different recordings, and you will have to answer questions on what you hear.
00:14 There will be time for you to read the instructions and questions, and you will have a chance to check your work.
00:22 All the recordings will be played once only.
00:26 The test is in four sections.
00:29 Write all your answers in the listening question booklet.
00:33 At the end of the test, you will be given 10 minutes to transfer your answers to an answer sheet.
00:42 Now turn to Section 1 on page two of your question booklet.
00:52 Section 1.
00:54 You will hear a woman talking on the phone to a car salesman about some second-hand cars he has for sale.
01:02 First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5 on page two.
01:33 You will see that there is an example that has been done for you.
01:37 On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first.
01:46Woman Hello.
01:47 I heard your advert (quảng cáo) on the radio about the sale you're having, and I wanted to find out about your cars.
01:54Salesman Well, you've called the right place.
01:55 So, how much do you want to spend?
01:58Woman I'd like to spend about $4,000, but definitely (chắc chắn) no more than $4,300.
02:08Narrator The maximum the woman would like to spend is $4,300, so 4,300 has been written in the space.
02:19 Now we shall begin.
02:21 You should answer the questions as you listen, because you will not hear the recording a second time.
02:28 Listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5.
02:35Woman Hello.
02:36 I heard your advert (quảng cáo) on the radio about the sale you're having, and I wanted to find out about your cars.
02:42Salesman Well, you've called the right place.
02:43 So, how much do you want to spend?
02:47Woman I'd like to spend about $4,000, but definitely (chắc chắn) no more than $4,300.
02:53Salesman Okay.
02:54 For that price, we've got some nice cars.
02:56 I've got a lovely Noda.
02:58 Do you know that model (mẫu xe)?
02:59Woman Yes.
03:01 What color is it?
03:02 I know it sounds unimportant (không quan trọng), but there are certain colors I don't want.
03:07Salesman Well, this one is silver.
03:09Woman That's good.
03:10 Because I don't want a dark color, like black.
03:12 As they get too hot in summer.
03:15 So is it in good condition (tình trạng)?
03:16Salesman It's just had a state-of-the-art (hiện đại nhất) stereo (dàn âm thanh) put in.
03:19 And although one light is damaged (hư hỏng), we'd repair (sửa chữa) that for you if you decided to buy it.
03:24Woman Oh, that's good of you.
03:26Salesman I've also got a Camina.
03:27 It's a white one.
03:28 It's slightly (hơi) more expensive than the Noda, but it's a good car.
03:32 I know it quite well because it was owned by our manager (quản lý) here, so I used to get to drive it quite a bit.
03:37Woman The Camina is okay, but it's a little on the big side.
03:41Salesman Well, how about a Telsta?
03:43 They're smaller, but not too small.
03:46Woman Hmm.
03:46Salesman We've got an orange one of those.
03:48 Actually, what kind of model (mẫu xe) were you after?
03:50 This one's an automatic (tự động).
03:52Woman Great.
03:53 They are so much easier to drive than the manual model (mẫu số sàn).
03:57 Although I'm fine with either.
03:58Salesman And another good feature (tính năng) is that the previous (trước đó) owner only replaced (thay thế) its tires (lốp xe) last month.
04:04Woman That will save some money, and anything to do with the wheels is so important for safety (an toàn).
04:09 It might be worth a look.
04:11Salesman Okay.
04:12 Now, let's look at what else we've got in your price range.
04:15 How about an Abrada?
04:16 It's a red one.
04:17 It's the newest of the cars for sale in your bracket (khoảng giá).
04:21Woman How old is it?
04:22 I doubt I could afford (đủ khả năng chi trả) anything less than 10 years old.
04:25Salesman Well, you might be surprised (ngạc nhiên).
04:26 There was only one previous (trước đó) owner and they had it eight years.
04:30 All the others are at least (ít nhất) nine years old.
04:32Woman Hmm.
04:33 Now that's a possibility (khả năng).
04:38Narrator Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10 on page two.
05:11 Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10.
05:18Woman Okay.
05:19 Well, I'm interested (quan tâm) in a couple of those.
05:21 Could I come and take a look at them?
05:23Salesman Sure.
05:24 We're open seven days a week.
05:25 Do you know where we are?
05:27Woman I think so.
05:28 You're on Station Road in Mitchell, right?
05:31 I usually go past your place when I'm on the bus.
05:34Salesman That's right.
05:34 You can't miss us.
05:35 What day would suit you?
05:37 Don't leave it too long as these cars are likely (có khả năng) to go quickly at these prices.
05:42Woman Well, I couldn't get there before Wednesday, and even that might be pushing it (hơi khó).
05:47 How does Thursday sound?
05:48Salesman Sounds good.
05:49 I usually don't work then or Fridays, but I am this week.
05:53Woman That's good.
05:54 I'd prefer to deal with (làm việc với) you.
05:56 Okay.
05:56 So would 9:30 in the morning be okay?
05:59Salesman No worries.
06:00 When you arrive, ask for Gerald Smith.
06:02 That's G E R A L D.
06:06Woman Okay.
06:07Salesman Now, will you be coming by car or public transport (phương tiện công cộng)?
06:10Woman I'll probably come with my dad in his car.
06:12 He knows all about this sort of thing.
06:15Salesman Well, you should be able to park at the supermarket (siêu thị).
06:18 Parking (bãi đậu xe) can be a bit hard with all the businesses (doanh nghiệp) around here and all our cars out the front.
06:23Woman Great.
06:24 Now, is there anything I need to bring with me?
06:26Salesman Hmm, let me think.
06:28 If you want to take the car for a test drive, you'll need to have identification (giấy tờ tùy thân) with you.
06:32 I mean, otherwise (nếu không thì) you could just drive off in it and never come back.
06:36Woman Okay.
06:37 That's easy.
06:38Salesman Perfect (hoàn hảo).
06:39 See you later this week.
06:43Narrator That is the end of Section 1.
06:46 You now have half a minute to check your answers.

Section 2

51 dòng · 2 người nói · 54 từ vựng

07:20Narrator Now turn to Section 2 on page 3.
07:26 Section 2.
07:28 You will hear the chairperson (chủ tịch) of the Middletown Urban (đô thị) Farming Scheme (chương trình) talking to a group of people who are interested (quan tâm) in joining the scheme (chương trình).
07:38 First, you have some time to look at questions 11 to 16 on page 3.
08:29 Now listen carefully and answer questions 11 to 16.
08:37Chris Butler I'm Chris Butler, and I'm the chairperson (chủ tịch) of the Middletown Urban (đô thị) Farming Scheme (chương trình), or MUFS for short.
08:44 A highly successful program which encourages (khuyến khích) city dwellers (cư dân thành phố) to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
08:50 To become city farmers, if you will.
08:53 Who started MUFS?
08:55 Well, the idea of urban (đô thị) farming has been around for quite a while, particularly among town planners.
09:02 But it was actually a group of Middletown business people, including myself, who decided to create what became MUFS.
09:10 University agriculture specialists got involved later.
09:14 Now, initially (ban đầu), the aim was not some eco-friendly (thân thiện với môi trường) goal of reducing CO2 emissions (khí thải) caused by the transport (vận chuyển) of food from farm to dinner plate.
09:24 It was simply to maximize (tối đa hóa) the utilization (sự tận dụng) of the vacant (bỏ trống) or idle (nhàn rỗi) land that lies within the city.
09:30 Of course, later we realized that an additional (bổ sung) benefit (lợi ích) might be a healthier diet for local people.
09:38 Let me tell you a bit about the groups that have joined the scheme (chương trình).
09:41 We've got any number of schools involved and loads of corporate employees (nhân viên công ty).
09:46 So our message seems to have been well received there.
09:49 But for next year, we're going to concentrate (tập trung) on getting various community centers (trung tâm cộng đồng), like those for senior citizens (người cao tuổi), to join.
09:56 Because so far, they've been somewhat (phần nào) slow to take up the scheme (chương trình).
10:01 Now, the core committee (ủy ban cốt lõi) of the MUFS is a group of dedicated (tận tụy) gardeners (người làm vườn).
10:08 They probably won't be familiar with your specific plot (mảnh đất) of land.
10:12 They're mostly amateurs (nghiệp dư).
10:14 But they are the people who know the ins and outs of gardening.
10:18 And they will be happy to sit down with any MUFS member and make some hands-on (thực tế) suggestions (gợi ý) about gardening.
10:25 But don't expect them to know the answers to technical questions (câu hỏi kỹ thuật), like the Latin names (tên Latin) of plants.
10:32 The MUFS are keen to support members who are physically disabled (khuyết tật về thể chất).
10:37 We're looking at the possibility (khả năng) of providing specially adapted (được điều chỉnh đặc biệt) gardening tools on loan (cho mượn) to members who can't cope with regular (thông thường) tools.
10:45 That's not happening yet.
10:47 But we do have some window boxes (hộp trồng cây ở cửa sổ) as well as larger containers (thùng chứa), which we can distribute (phân phát) free of charge (miễn phí) to these members.
10:54 Although they will have to provide their own soil (đất) and compost (phân hữu cơ) themselves.
10:58 I'm especially proud of the work we've done with the local schools, both grade school level and high schools.
11:05 The teachers say that they knew the scheme (chương trình) would be of some practical use (công dụng thực tế) in science classes, like biology (sinh học).
11:12 Despite the original hopes (hy vọng ban đầu) of some, the fruit and vegetable plots (mảnh đất) haven't provided cheaper lunches for their students.
11:19 But what they didn't anticipate (lường trước) was the change in attitude (thái độ) that the scheme (chương trình) has created amongst their students.
11:26 They say the students have become much more conscious (có ý thức) of their surrounding environment (môi trường xung quanh).
11:30 They want to keep it neat and tidy (gọn gàng sạch sẽ).
11:35Narrator Before you hear the rest of the talk, you have some time to look at questions 17 to 20 on page 4.
12:03 Now listen and answer questions 17 to 20.
12:11Chris Butler Now, a number of local organizations and businesses (doanh nghiệp) provide our members with free goods and services.
12:17 Let me go through some of them.
12:19 The city hospital, as you might expect, has to provide thousands of meals for its patients (bệnh nhân).
12:25 So the manager (quản lý) of its kitchen runs a course for our members on how to use vegetables in a huge variety of dishes.
12:33 The local government found it had a large glass building, which the parks department used to start off flower seeds and young plants during the winter.
12:42 And they agreed to allow our members to use this free of charge (miễn phí) to get their own little seedlings off to a good start.
12:50 Another thing.
12:51 The university has agreed that if members send them a sample of their soil (đất), they will do a series of tests on it to indicate what kind of plants will grow best and what types of fertilizers and nutrients would be best to use.
13:05 And just to make sure our members know what's good for them, a supermarket (siêu thị) is offering a series of classes on how to lose weight and stay healthy by having a sensible diet.
13:17 Now, let's talk about the practicalities.
13:23Narrator That is the end of Section 2.
13:26 You now have half a minute to check your answers.

Section 3

89 dòng · 3 người nói · 50 từ vựng

13:59Narrator Now turn to Section 3 on page 5.
14:05 Section 3.
14:07 You will hear two psychology (tâm lý học) students called Katie and Daniel discussing (thảo luận) how taking a walk can affect people's creativity (sự sáng tạo) and physical wellbeing (sức khỏe thể chất).
14:19 First, you have some time to look at questions 21 to 26 on page 5.
15:11 Now listen carefully and answer questions 21 to 26.
15:19Katie Hi, Daniel.
15:20Daniel Katie.
15:21 You look as if you're off somewhere.
15:23Katie Yes, I was just heading out for a walk.
15:26Daniel Hmm, funny.
15:27 I was just reading an article (bài báo) about some research (nghiên cứu) that's been done on the effects (ảnh hưởng) of walking on creativity (sự sáng tạo).
15:34Katie Huh, sounds interesting.
15:36Daniel I've always found walking helped me think, but this article (bài báo) confirms that everybody can benefit (hưởng lợi).
15:43Katie Oh, tell me more.
15:45Daniel Okay, but I may even do some more research (nghiên cứu) on it at some point, so don't pinch my idea.
15:51Katie Promise.
15:53Daniel Well, in the experiments (thí nghiệm), the researchers (nhà nghiên cứu) tested participants' (người tham gia) creativity (sự sáng tạo) by comparing (so sánh) how many ideas they thought of while they were walking, compared to while they were doing other activities (hoạt động).
16:07Katie What, like listening to music?
16:09Daniel Nothing like that.
16:11 But they did analyze (phân tích) the ideas participants (người tham gia) came up with when sitting, both outdoors (ngoài trời) and indoors (trong nhà).
16:19 What I found surprising (ngạc nhiên) was that they didn't compare (so sánh) walking to other forms of exercise (các hình thức tập thể dục), like running, for example.
16:27Katie Right.
16:28 So what was the difference between the experiments (thí nghiệm)?
16:31Daniel Well, in each one, the activities (hoạt động) were put together in different ways.
16:37 Several of the experiments (thí nghiệm) specifically (cụ thể) focused (tập trung) on the ability of participants (người tham gia) to come up with new ideas.
16:44 Then the final (cuối cùng) experiment (thí nghiệm) was a control test (bài kiểm tra đối chứng) of sorts.
16:48Katie Oh, right.
16:50Daniel In one experiment (thí nghiệm), participants (người tham gia) had to think of unusual (bất thường) uses for three everyday objects (vật dụng hàng ngày) within a timeline (khung thời gian).
16:58Katie Okay.
16:59Daniel And then there was an experiment (thí nghiệm) with words.
17:02Katie What did they ask them to do?
17:04Daniel Compare (so sánh) words in unusual ways (những cách khác thường).
17:07 For example, the word sweet.
17:11 If participants (người tham gia) simply said sweet as sugar, that wasn't creative (sáng tạo).
17:17 But an answer like sweet as a cat with honey on its paws was.
17:21Katie Okay.
17:22 I can see why they'd ask them to do that.
17:25Daniel Really?
17:26 I just don't see how the experiment (thí nghiệm) is fair.
17:29Katie Why?
17:30 Because the conclusions (kết luận) are based only on the researchers' (nhà nghiên cứu) opinion (ý kiến).
17:34Daniel I think it's more that anyone who'd studied language (ngôn ngữ) would be at an advantage (lợi thế).
17:39Katie Hmm, okay.
17:41 Was there an experiment (thí nghiệm) about focused thinking (tư duy tập trung)?
17:45Daniel Yeah, there was.
17:46 It aimed to find out if walking helped focused (tập trung) thinking.
17:51 Though I wasn't sure that I agreed with their findings (phát hiện).
17:54 They decided that walking doesn't help this type of thinking.
17:59Katie What evidence (bằng chứng) did they have?
18:01Daniel Well, that's it.
18:02 I don't think there was enough evidence (bằng chứng) to support (hỗ trợ) their conclusions (kết luận), even if their methods (phương pháp) were sound (hợp lý).
18:09Katie Well, I'd certainly hesitate (do dự) before making such a bold statement (tuyên bố táo bạo).
18:13Daniel Still, it's a first step (bước), isn't it?
18:16 I suppose to move forward (tiến lên) with this, they'll need to test other ways people keep fit, like swimming.
18:23Katie That would be useful, but personally, I'd like to know more about the fundamental reason (lý do cơ bản) for the effect (ảnh hưởng) on people's creativity (sự sáng tạo).
18:32Daniel That would be good.
18:33 Then it could be applied (áp dụng) more widely (rộng rãi) in work, for example.
18:37Katie Again, that's secondary (thứ yếu) really.
18:43Narrator Before you hear the rest of the discussion, you have some time to look at questions 27 to 30 on page 6.
19:11 Now listen and answer questions 27 to 30.
19:19Katie But how would you test walking if you wanted to assess its physical benefits?
19:25Daniel Well, firstly, I'd like to know more about the benefits of different situations.
19:31Katie What about the effect of footwear?
19:33Daniel Hmm, hadn't thought of that.
19:35 Well, I've read that shoes with thinner soles were found to be better for people's joints.
19:41 It even made the skeletal structure tougher.
19:44Katie Interesting.
19:44 Was that because they lost weight?
19:47Daniel Not as far as I'm aware.
19:49 And then there's walking in the mountains.
19:52Katie Walking in the mountains.
19:54 Hmm.
19:55 I think I've read something about that.
19:57 Doesn't altitude help people regulate their sleep patterns?
20:02Daniel It's more that it improves your vision.
20:05Katie It must be those breathtaking views.
20:07Daniel Yeah.
20:08 And what about the effect that walking has for elderly people?
20:12Katie Better balance, by any chance?
20:15Daniel Hmm, more than that.
20:16 It had a positive effect by helping them maintain their body clock's natural rhythm, both when going to bed and waking up.
20:25Katie Right.
20:26 And what about the effect of walking long distances?
20:29Daniel Well, a person needs to find the balance between their optimum speed and their natural breathing pattern.
20:36 Once they're synchronized, they can just keep on going for much longer periods than they could before.
20:43 I can see how that would work.
20:45 But anyway, you were...
20:50Narrator That is the end of Section 3.
20:53 You now have half a minute to check your answers.

Section 4

44 dòng · 2 người nói · 108 từ vựng

21:27Narrator Now turn to Section 4 on page 7.
21:32 Section 4.
21:34 You will hear a lecturer (giảng viên) talking about the use of games techniques (kỹ thuật) in business.
21:39 First, you have some time to look at questions 31 to 40 on page 7.
22:36 Now listen carefully and answer questions 31 to 40.
22:44Lecturer Today, we're going to look at how the phenomenon (hiện tượng) known as gamification (game hóa) has really exploded (bùng nổ) in recent years.
22:51 So what exactly is gamification (game hóa)?
22:53 It has been defined as the use of games thinking and mechanics (cơ chế) in non-game situations (tình huống không phải trò chơi), such as for business.
23:01 Up to now, its most common (phổ biến) function (chức năng) has been marketing (tiếp thị).
23:05 It is extremely (cực kỳ) popular (phổ biến) with big companies, but as we'll see, it also has many other uses.
23:11 Gamification (game hóa) techniques (kỹ thuật) work on our natural desire (mong muốn tự nhiên) for competition (sự cạnh tranh).
23:15 One way they do this is by providing a reward (phần thưởng).
23:18 For example, badges (huy hiệu) or points (điểm), or providing a type of virtual currency (tiền ảo).
23:24 But don't be fooled (bị lừa) into thinking the concept is a novel (mới lạ) one.
23:27 Just think of the frequent flyer (khách hàng thường xuyên bay) incentive schemes (chương trình khuyến khích) that were initiated (khởi xướng) by airlines (hãng hàng không) to try and retain (giữ chân) customers (khách hàng).
23:34 In fact, it's been around for years.
23:36 However, it has become more prolific (phổ biến rộng rãi) with advances (tiến bộ) in technology (công nghệ).
23:40 So how is gamification (game hóa) being used?
23:43 Well, it is seen as an excellent way of obtaining (thu được) almost instantaneous (tức thì) feedback (phản hồi) through common social media sites (trang mạng xã hội).
23:51 However, there are other areas where it is increasingly (ngày càng) being used, in particular as a means of trying to convince (thuyết phục) people through fun activities (hoạt động vui chơi) to alter (thay đổi) their behavior (hành vi).
24:01 Another use is in education (giáo dục) or training (đào tạo) in the workplace (nơi làm việc), especially when it is just not feasible (khả thi) to train people on the real thing.
24:09 Good examples of this are the aircraft simulators (thiết bị mô phỏng máy bay) used by pilots (phi công) or the urban simulators (thiết bị mô phỏng đô thị) used by town planners (nhà quy hoạch đô thị).
24:21 So, let's look at a few examples of the successful implementation (sự thực hiện) of gamification (game hóa).
24:26 One perhaps surprising (ngạc nhiên) use of gamification (game hóa) has been in official campaigns (chiến dịch chính thức) by governments (chính phủ) and authorities (cơ quan chức năng) who have quickly seen its potential (tiềm năng).
24:36 In Australia, the government developed a smartphone app (ứng dụng điện thoại thông minh) called My Fit Buddy, whose aim was to help people get off the sofa and exercise (tập thể dục).
24:44 The app provided plenty of motivational content (nội dung tạo động lực) to ensure people got the encouragement (sự khuyến khích) they needed to increase (tăng) their levels of activity (mức độ hoạt động).
24:52 Overseas (ở nước ngoài) in one city, instead of just punishing (trừng phạt) the drivers (tài xế) caught driving too fast, a local authority (chính quyền địa phương) conducted a trial (tiến hành một thử nghiệm) where they rewarded (thưởng) good drivers (tài xế) with free entries into a draw (rút thăm).
25:03 The trial was so successful (thành công) that it resulted in (dẫn đến) a 22% reduction (sự giảm bớt) in speeding (chạy quá tốc độ).
25:09 Gamification (game hóa) is also playing its part (đóng vai trò) in helping people make healthy choices (lựa chọn lành mạnh).
25:15 In an attempt (nỗ lực) to get commuters (người đi làm) to walk instead of using the escalators (thang cuốn) in an underground station (ga tàu điện ngầm), the staircase (cầu thang bộ) next to it was transformed (biến đổi) into a piano (đàn piano).
25:24 It had a touchpad (bảng cảm ứng) underneath which played notes (nốt nhạc) as people stepped on it (bước lên nó).
25:29 When it was in use, almost everyone opted (lựa chọn) to use the stairs instead of the escalator (thang cuốn).
25:36 Another example is a medical research (nghiên cứu y học) company in Australia.
25:39 They realized (nhận ra) the potential (tiềm năng) of gamification (game hóa) to help the elderly (người già) recover (hồi phục) much more quickly from accidents (tai nạn).
25:46 When the elderly (người già) fall, the most common (phổ biến) injury (chấn thương) is not to the arm or the leg, but to the hand (bàn tay).
25:52 So they took an already popular (phổ biến) computer game (trò chơi máy tính) which involved people smashing fruit (đập trái cây) and adapted (chuyển thể) it so patients (bệnh nhân) could practice (thực hành) their fine motor skills (kỹ năng vận động tinh) in a fun way (cách vui vẻ).
26:03 Now, there are a number of things to consider (xem xét) when using gamification (game hóa).
26:07 First of all, there is no way it can work unless it is fun.
26:11 In fact, without that element (yếu tố), it could have the complete opposite effect (tác dụng ngược lại) on the consumer (người tiêu dùng).
26:16 In addition (ngoài ra), as companies are often obtaining (thu được) a lot more personal information (thông tin cá nhân) and data (dữ liệu) on their customers (khách hàng) this way, they should always be mindful (lưu tâm) of their legal obligations (nghĩa vụ pháp lý) in terms of legislation (pháp luật) relating to privacy (sự riêng tư).
26:29 So now, it's over to you to think of other examples of gamification (game hóa) that you might have come across.
26:38Narrator That is the end of Section 4.
26:41 You now have half a minute to check your answers.
