Section 1

114 dòng · 3 người nói · 0 từ vựng

00:01Narrator IELTS listening.
00:03 Version 57262.
00:06 You will hear a number of different recordings and you will have to answer questions on what you hear.
00:13 There will be time for you to read the instructions and questions, and you will have a chance to check your work.
00:21 All the recordings will be played once only.
00:26 The test is in four sections.
00:29 Write all your answers in the listening question booklet.
00:33 At the end of the test, you will be given 10 minutes to transfer your answers to an answer sheet.
00:42 Now turn to section one on page two of your question booklet.
00:52 Section one.
00:54 You will hear a young woman phoning a friend who works for an airline to ask for advice about getting a job.
01:02 First, you have some time to look at questions one to five on page two.
01:33 You will see that there is an example that has been done for you.
01:37 On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first.
01:46Man Hello.
01:47Ellie Oh, hello.
01:49 Um, this is Ellie Fisher.
01:51 We were at school together.
01:53Man Oh, hi Ellie.
01:54 How are you?
01:56 What are you doing these days?
01:58Ellie Well, actually, I'm looking for a job and I was wondering about applying to an airline (hãng hàng không).
02:05 You know, looking after the passengers (hành khách).
02:08 And I heard you're doing something like that.
02:10Man Yeah, I'm working as a cabin crew attendant (tiếp viên).
02:17Narrator The job mentioned is a cabin crew attendant (tiếp viên), so attendant (tiếp viên) has been written in the space.
02:25 Now we shall begin.
02:27 You should answer the questions as you listen, because you will not hear the recording a second time.
02:34 Listen carefully and answer questions one to five.
02:41Man Hello.
02:42Ellie Oh, hello.
02:44 Um, this is Ellie Fisher.
02:46 We were at school together.
02:48Man Oh, hi Ellie.
02:50 How are you?
02:51 What are you doing these days?
02:53Ellie Well, actually, I'm looking for a job and I was wondering about applying to an airline (hãng hàng không).
03:00 You know, looking after the passengers (hành khách).
03:03 And I heard you're doing something like that.
03:05Man Yeah, I'm working as a cabin crew attendant (tiếp viên).
03:09Ellie Right.
03:10 So, what does that involve (bao gồm)?
03:12Man Well, you might have to give them the initial (ban đầu) safety demonstration (hướng dẫn) before take-off (cất cánh), for example.
03:18 You've probably seen that when you've made a journey (chuyến đi) by air.
03:22Ellie Actually, I've never flown, but I'd love to.
03:26 That's why I'd like a job with an airline (hãng hàng không).
03:28Man Oh, right.
03:30 And during the flight, you'd also be going round to see if anyone wants to buy anything.
03:35Ellie So, I'd be dealing with money.
03:37Man That's right.
03:38 You'd be responsible for that.
03:40 And then, of course, you'd be serving meals and snacks and things.
03:44Ellie Okay.
03:45 So, can anyone apply?
03:47Man Well, there are certain requirements (yêu cầu).
03:49 You must be at least 19 years old, and there's also a minimum height, that's 168 centimetres (xen-ti-mét).
03:56 That's to make sure you can reach the higher cupboards (tủ) in the plane.
03:59Ellie Right.
04:00 I'm 169 centimetres (xen-ti-mét), I think.
04:04 What about qualifications (bằng cấp)?
04:06Man You need to show that you have a good level of English, that's written and spoken, and also maths.
04:12Ellie Okay.
04:13 Well, I passed my exams in both those subjects, fortunately.
04:18Man And it's an advantage (lợi thế) if you can speak another language, although for cabin crew it's not essential (thiết yếu).
04:23Ellie I can speak Spanish.
04:25 I did that at school until I was 16.
04:28Man Excellent.
04:28 That'll be very useful.
04:31Ellie And I'm pretty fit.
04:33 I don't have any medical (y tế) problems.
04:35Man Okay.
04:36 Oh, and can you swim?
04:38Ellie Yes.
04:38Man Good, because that's another requirement (yêu cầu).
04:45Narrator Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions six to ten on page two.
05:18 Now listen and answer questions six to ten.
05:25Man Now, if you're accepted (được chấp nhận), you'll get a six-week training course (khóa đào tạo).
05:29Ellie Right.
05:30Man So, that'll cover all aspects (khía cạnh) of the job, all the basic things you need to know, and then some special things, like what action to take if a passenger (hành khách) suddenly has some sort of illness (bệnh tật) while you're in the air, for example.
05:42Ellie Right.
05:43 I suppose you can't always count on a doctor being on board.
05:46Man No.
05:48 And then you'll have to do a lot of work during the training on becoming aware of the variety (sự đa dạng) of cultures that your passengers (hành khách) may come from and the implications (hàm ý) of that.
05:56 That's really interesting, actually.
05:58Ellie Okay.
06:00 Well, I'd definitely like to apply.
06:03 Um, what airline (hãng hàng không) do you actually work for?
06:06Man It's a small airline (hãng hàng không) called Eurontas.
06:09 That's E-U-R-O-N-T-A-S.
06:16Ellie Is that N or M in the middle?
06:18Man N for November.
06:21Ellie Okay.
06:21Man They're good people to work for.
06:23 Have a look at their website.
06:25 You can download (tải xuống) the application form (đơn đăng ký) from there.
06:28Ellie Right.
06:29 I don't have much in the way of experience (kinh nghiệm), though.
06:32Man Well, what have you done since leaving school?
06:35Ellie I worked in a supermarket for a bit, on the information desk (quầy thông tin).
06:40 I was helping deal with queries (thắc mắc) from customers (khách hàng).
06:43Man Okay, put that down.
06:45 That's one of the most important aspects (khía cạnh) of the job, in fact.
06:48Ellie Oh, right.
06:50 And last year, I also did some voluntary (tình nguyện) work as part of a team (đội).
06:55 Should I put that down too?
06:57Man Of course.
06:58 That's something else they'll be looking for, being able to work with others.
07:02Ellie Right.
07:03Man And a lot of airlines (hãng hàng không) expect you to pay for your own uniform (đồng phục), but the good thing about this airline (hãng hàng không) is that they provide (cung cấp) it for you.
07:10Ellie Great.
07:11 Well, thanks so much, Greg.
07:12 I really...
07:17Narrator That is the end of section one.
07:19 You now have half a minute to check your answers.
Section 2

07:59Narrator Section two.
08:01 You will hear a woman called Marie talking at a conference to a group of people who work in the hospitality industry (ngành khách sạn) in Scotland.
08:11 First, you have some time to look at questions 11 to 14 on page three.
08:37 Now listen carefully and answer questions 11 to 14.
08:46Marie Hi, my name's Marie Cooper, and I'm here to tell you about the scholarships (học bổng) offered by the hospitality industry (ngành khách sạn) in Scotland.
08:54 The scholarship (học bổng) scheme supports people currently working in hotels, resorts (khu nghỉ dưỡng), and tourist attractions (điểm thu hút khách du lịch).
09:02 Each year, 100 people are selected to go and work in some of the leading hospitality (khách sạn) organizations in the world.
09:10 This time last year, I was wondering whether to apply for a scholarship (học bổng), and not sure if I had enough experience (kinh nghiệm) to be successful.
09:18 I needn't have worried.
09:20 The scholarship (học bổng) is open to people of all ages working full-time in the industry.
09:25 The only stipulation (điều kiện) is that you need to have worked for three years in hospitality (khách sạn), not necessarily for the same organization.
09:34 Of course, they're looking for ambitious people who want to get on, but you haven't had the chance to work in management or studied at college.
09:43 So there are no minimum qualifications (bằng cấp) required.
09:47 And you're just as likely to be offered a scholarship (học bổng) if you work for a large fancy hotel in Edinburgh or a small family hotel in the Highlands.
09:57 As we all know, Scotland is famous for its fishing, golf, coastline (đường bờ biển), and unspoilt (hoang sơ) countryside.
10:04 Which is why it's always been a popular destination (điểm đến) for tourists from all over the world.
10:10 Something like 10% of people in Scotland depend on the Scottish hospitality industry (ngành khách sạn) for their income.
10:16 So it's vital (sống còn) that it continues to attract large numbers of visitors each year.
10:22 The scholarships (học bổng) are a way of maintaining (duy trì) Scotland's reputation (danh tiếng) as a quality destination (điểm đến), so that visitors to Scotland can continue to have a very positive experience (trải nghiệm).
10:36Narrator Before you hear the rest of the talk, you have some time to look at questions 15 to 20 on page four.
11:28 Now listen and answer questions 15 to 20.
11:36Marie I currently work at the Rock Hotel in Perth as a trainee manager (quản lý tập sự), but I joined as a receptionist (nhân viên lễ tân) five years ago.
11:44 At the time, I was looking for work that fitted in with a young family, and I was lucky to get the perfect job for me, where I could take time off during the school holidays.
11:55 I realized soon after I started that I loved working with people and enjoyed working in a hotel environment.
12:03 Last year, I was lucky enough to be a scholarship (học bổng) winner.
12:07 The application process was actually quite simple.
12:10 I was worried I'd have to give a presentation in front of loads of people, but you just have to produce a report on your current place of employment saying how you think you could make a difference there.
12:21 My manager at the Rock Hotel was very supportive and gave me time off to do the writing and the research.
12:29 Then, all the winners were invited to an awards ceremony (lễ trao giải).
12:33 They were mostly working in different sorts of hotels, although a few were working at tourist attractions (điểm thu hút khách du lịch), and one was involved in the Edinburgh Festival.
12:43 I'd expected I'd be one of the youngest, but at least half the people were younger than me.
12:49 All the people I met couldn't believe their luck that they'd been successful, as it's not unusual to fail the first time.
12:57 I was sent to the Florida Beach Hotel.
13:00 Here, the emphasis is on customer service (dịch vụ khách hàng), making sure that staff are trained to give customers (khách hàng) a really personal service (dịch vụ cá nhân), checking that guests are enjoying their stay, so they're encouraged to chat with them, even if their job is just clearing tables.
13:15 Quite a different atmosphere to some hotels I know, where the emphasis is on efficiency (hiệu quả), which can make the guests feel in the way.
13:24 One of the things we were encouraged to do while we were on our placements (vị trí thực tập) was to find out what people thought about visiting Scotland.
13:32 That was quite interesting.
13:34 Although everyone I spoke to knew a bit about Scotland, the majority had never considered (xem xét) a holiday there.
13:42 And of the people who were thinking of visiting Scotland, they were really only interested in visiting Edinburgh and St Andrews.
13:50 Anyway, on my return to the Rock Hotel, my manager asked me to introduce some improvements (cải tiến).
13:56 And the first thing I did was to redraft our customer survey form (phiếu khảo sát khách hàng) to get guests' detailed opinions.
14:03 This used to be given to customers (khách hàng) at the end of their stay when they're in a rush to leave.
14:08 So, I decided it would be better to email them to customers (khách hàng) at home so they have more time to complete them.
14:15 It's another way of staying in contact with them, too.
14:21Narrator That is the end of section two.
14:24 You now have half a minute to check your answers.
Section 3

15:03Narrator Section three.
15:05 You will hear a discussion between two students called Simon and Anna,
15:09 who are taking a Bachelor of Communications (Cử nhân Truyền thông) degree in New Zealand.
15:15 First, you have some time to look at questions 21 to 24 on page five.
15:52 Now listen carefully and answer questions 21 to 24.
15:59Simon Excuse me.
16:01 Are you Anna Jenkins?
16:02Anna Yes.
16:03Simon My name's Simon.
16:05 I'm on the Bachelor of Communications (Cử nhân Truyền thông) course, year one,
16:08 and I really need some advice from someone who's ahead of me.
16:11 I was told you were in year three.
16:14Anna That's right.
16:15 How's it going?
16:16Simon Mm.
16:17 I'm not convinced I chose the right major (chuyên ngành).
16:21 At present, I'm doing public relations.
16:23 That's why I want to talk to you.
16:25 You're doing the global communications major (chuyên ngành), right?
16:28Anna Yes.
16:28 Are you going to change to that?
16:29Simon Possibly.
16:31 If it helps my career.
16:32Anna Won't the public relations course do that?
16:35Simon If I just wanted to work in New Zealand, yes.
16:37 I mean, I've heard of graduates (sinh viên tốt nghiệp) finding work here almost immediately, and with good salaries.
16:43 But I'd like to go abroad.
16:44 And I imagine the global major (chuyên ngành) would give me the skills so I could go off and work anywhere.
16:50 I know it'll be hard work starting again, but I would be motivated (có động lực).
16:54Anna I see.
16:55 But I'm still not sure you need to change majors to achieve your goal.
16:58 Aren't some of the courses the same for both majors?
17:02Simon Some of the same, yes.
17:03 But I'm not sure I'm cut out for the business aspects (khía cạnh) of public relations.
17:08 Economic principles, for example.
17:10 I understand what it's all about.
17:12 I did economics at high school.
17:14 But I just found it dull.
17:16 I want to study something creative, something that connects you to people.
17:21Anna Well, the global major (chuyên ngành) certainly does that.
17:23Simon Is it right you have to learn a language?
17:25Anna Well, it was compulsory (bắt buộc) when I started, but it's up to you now.
17:29Simon Do you think it's necessary to learn one?
17:31Anna Well so much of the major (chuyên ngành) is looking at ways that culture and language influence communication.
17:36 And if you learn a second language yourself, you definitely get more of an insight into what the theory is all about.
17:41Simon But I'm no good at languages.
17:43 Which one is the easiest?
17:45Anna I'm not sure that's the best rationale (lý do) for a choice.
17:48 In my first year, we could go for Chinese, Japanese or Maori.
17:51 I went for Chinese because New Zealand has so many trade deals with China now,
17:55 but Japanese would be good if you think you might end up in tourism.
17:59 I did Maori at high school, and it was fascinating.
18:02 But it would restrict you to doing business within New Zealand.
18:08Narrator Before you hear the rest of the discussion,
18:11 you have some time to look at questions 25 to 30 on page six.
18:46 Now listen and answer questions 25 to 30.
18:53Simon What did you think of your lecturers (giảng viên)?
18:55Anna Oh, I have to say they're great.
18:58 And when we were working on our individual proposals (đề xuất) for the internships (kỳ thực tập),
19:01 they pushed us to keep working on producing the best work possible.
19:04 And even though I kept having to adapt it, I actually felt proud of mine eventually.
19:09Simon Yes, ours push us too, which is good.
19:13 Sometimes you don't know what you're capable of, and it makes you a lot more enthusiastic.
19:17 Sometimes, if the lecturer (giảng viên) sits down with you for a chat, it's more motivating (tạo động lực) than a written report.
19:23Anna I completely agree.
19:25Simon And I suppose one thing I really like is the way they encourage us to challenge their opinions,
19:30 as long as we can come up with a sound argument to support our case.
19:34Anna I think that's helped me develop some useful critical thinking skills.
19:37Simon That's good.
19:39Anna I think whatever major (chuyên ngành) you do, all the lecturers (giảng viên) want to encourage that.
19:43 At least that's my experience.
19:45Simon What did you enjoy most about the global communications major (chuyên ngành)?
19:50Anna Well, Communication One was really useful.
19:52 I was never very confident at speaking in front of large groups,
19:55 but that showed us how to use different voice techniques and how to give interactive presentations.
20:01 I had to give a presentation (bài thuyết trình) to some executives during my internship (kỳ thực tập), and I did quite well after that.
20:05Simon Sounds interesting.
20:07Anna Psychology was absolutely fascinating.
20:10 You get to look at what motivates (thúc đẩy) people and how people operate within a big team.
20:14 That's really essential when you're trying to get all the people to cooperate on a project that has the pressure of a deadline.
20:20Simon In the brochure, interpersonal (giữa các cá nhân) skills looks good.
20:23Anna I didn't do that course.
20:25Simon It says it's about how to listen properly,
20:26 how to manage conflict (xung đột) in relationships, you know,
20:29 when colleagues are arguing.
20:31 The first step to improving things is better communication.
20:34Anna That's pretty logical.
20:36Simon And this one, Communication Three,
20:38 what kinds of behavior are likely to cause offense or misunderstanding between nationalities in the global business world.
20:45Anna Yes, I enjoyed that.
20:50Narrator That is the end of section three.
20:53 You now have half a minute to check your answers.

Section 4

40 dòng · 2 người nói · 0 từ vựng

21:37Narrator Section four.
21:39 You will hear a talk at a university open day to students interested in following a course in textiles (dệt may) and business studies.
21:48 First, you have some time to look at questions 31 to 40 on pages seven and eight.
22:54Speaker 1 Thank you first of all for coming along to the university's open day, and in particular for coming to this talk to find out about our course in textiles (dệt may) with business studies.
23:06 The cooperation (sự hợp tác) between the faculty (khoa) of Arts and Architecture and the business faculty (khoa) enables us to offer this undergraduate (đại học) and integrated (tích hợp) master's course.
23:17 In the five years this course has been running, we've learned a lot and it's become very popular.
23:23 Now, thanks to the faculty (khoa) of engineering, we're also able to offer a really exciting opportunity to those who would like to further diversify (đa dạng hóa) and would like to carry their learning through into new disciplines (ngành học).
23:36 Now, the aims of this course are firstly to create innovative (sáng tạo) and highly motivated (có động lực cao) textile practitioners (người thực hành dệt may) within the disciplines (ngành học) of knitted textiles (dệt kim), and increasingly popular area, as you will have seen on the catwalks, printed (in), and of course, woven textiles (dệt thoi).
23:55 Secondly, we also ensure that our students gain an in-depth (chuyên sâu) knowledge and understanding of related business operations (hoạt động kinh doanh).
24:04 We make sure that our students have sufficient hands-on experience (kinh nghiệm thực tế) by arranging interesting and relevant work placements (vị trí thực tập).
24:12 The focus of the integrated (tích hợp) component of the work placement (vị trí thực tập) is the global market (thị trường toàn cầu).
24:18 Our aim is to locate studio work in this increasingly important context.
24:25 Moving on to what we do in each year.
24:27 In the first year, students explore (khám phá) the three subject areas (lĩnh vực môn học) of textiles (dệt may) in rotation (luân phiên).
24:34 The emphasis for the first year is experimentation (thử nghiệm), and we ask for evidence of visual research (nghiên cứu thị giác) which must be supported by documentation (tài liệu) and proposals (đề xuất) for its application.
24:45 In year two, design (thiết kế) and technical skills (kỹ năng kỹ thuật) are related to the real world.
24:52 Unlike many other university textile (dệt may) courses these days, we give our students the opportunity to choose an extra module on the traditional processes (quy trình truyền thống) of design (thiết kế), which gives a historical perspective (góc nhìn lịch sử) on their work.
25:06 This can be done before introducing students to computer-aided design (thiết kế có sự hỗ trợ của máy tính).
25:12 Students at this point, year two, decide if they intend to complete the course at year three with a BA Hons (cử nhân danh dự) or progress to year four and conclude with a Master's in Design (thạc sĩ thiết kế).
25:24 Students can also have tutorials (buổi hướng dẫn) if they feel they need help making this important decision.
25:31 This reflects our commitment to student support at all times.
25:40 Year three consolidates (củng cố) the knowledge gained using a particular learning style.
25:45 It's called reflective practice (thực hành phản ánh).
25:48 That means you look back on what you've done and analyze and evaluate your subject in both academic and professional contexts.
25:56 This helps and encourages deeper understanding.
25:59 Students produce a dissertation (luận văn) on a topic of their own choosing and a portfolio (hồ sơ năng lực) of their textile collection (bộ sưu tập dệt may).
26:08 Also, to help underpin the commercial aspect of the course, we ask for a business plan (kế hoạch kinh doanh).
26:14 On the subject of career opportunities (cơ hội nghề nghiệp), many graduates work directly within the textile (dệt may) business, with careers commonly found as stylists (nhà tạo mẫu) and retail managers (quản lý bán lẻ).
26:26 However, it shouldn't be forgotten that there are many other exciting opportunities out there, for example, careers in journalism (báo chí) for those with a flair for words, or trend forecasting (dự báo xu hướng) for those with their eye on the future.
26:40 We are certain that we shall see broader and more varied opportunities for our graduates.
26:47 If you like what you've heard today and are thinking of applying for the program and you'd like to talk to us further, please come back tomorrow.
26:56 You'll have the opportunity to do a brief interview (phỏng vấn) where we'll be able to assess (đánh giá) your aptitude (năng khiếu) for this subject area.
27:03 Many students who haven't studied related subjects may be surprised to find that they're quite well suited to our program.
27:10 After that, of course, you'll need to go through the usual application procedures (thủ tục đăng ký).
27:18Narrator That is the end of section four.
27:20 You now have half a minute to check your answers.
36:04 You have two minutes left.
37:06 You have one minute left.
38:08 Please stop writing and wait for your question booklet to be collected.
